Mahindra S201- Ssangyong X100 platform based compact SUV spied

Mahindra is busily testing on the S201 compact crossover. The S201 is based on SsangYong’s X100 platform which also underpins the Tivoli SUV and is expected to be launched in India in 2018.

In terms of design, the S201 will be slightly different from the Tivoli and will be designed by Pininfarina along with SsangYong collaboratively. Apart from Pininfarina and SsangYong, Mahindra will also utilise the Mahindra Research Valley in Chennai and the Mahindra North America Technical Center for the development of the S201.

Under the hood, the S201 is expected to sport both petrol and diesel engines. The petrol variant is likely to be powered by a new 1.5-litre TGDI engine whereas the diesel by mHAWK 100.

When launched, the S201 will take on the likes of Maruti Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport, Renault Kaptur and Hyundai Creta.
