2018 Hyundai Santro spied. Features Kona design language

Hyundai is developing an entirely new Santro (name not confirmed) for the masses and we have already seen early prototypes of the car here in India. The new Santro has now been spotted undergoing winter testing in Europe.

The extensive amount of camouflage (with a zipper and a lock at the back) might suggest an official reveal is far away. Infact, at the upcoming Indian Auto Expo, the South Korean marque is expected to take the wraps off the all-new hatckback.

The 2018 Santro will be a tall-boy hatchback and on offer will be generous amount of headroom for the driver and passengers. Under the camo is a more modern design compared to the old Santro Xing discontinued in 2015 after being on sale for an impressive 16 years.

In terms of engines and transmissions, a brand new, 3 cylinder petrol motor is likely to power the new car. Also there was a news of Hyundai’s Chennai engine plant working on a new four-cylinder engine probably for the new hatch.

A 5 speed manual gearbox is expected to be standard fare, the new Santro is touted to be the first Hyundai to offer an automated manual transmission (AMT) option. A diesel engine option is unlikely for the new car while Hyundai may eventually offer a CNG-Petrol dual fuel option in specific markets of the country.
