Ford unveils sixth gen Mustang GT in India. Auto Expo showcase

The sixth generation Ford Mustang GT has been unveiled in India ahead of its Auto Expo 2016 showcase. The US car major plans to launch the Mustang in India in the second quarter of this year.

The car will be on display at the upcoming Auto Expo from February 3-9, 2016.

Ford Mustang will be  brought to India through the completely built up (CBU) route.

The Mustang, for Indian market, will be powered by a 5.0-litre V8 engine supercharged petrol motor that makes an impressive 429 bhp and 540 Nm torque  helping the car to a top speed of 250 km/hr.

Power is sent to the rear wheels with the optionally available six-speed SelectShift automatic transmission that features paddle shifters on the steering wheel.

The new Mustang features:




  • Ford’s SYNC connectivity system

  • Navigation,

  • Push button start,

  • Passive entry and start system allows the driver to lock and unlock the vehicle's doors without touching a key,

  • Power folding mirrors,

  • Rear camera

  • Selectable Drive Modes (SDM)- allows the driver to toggle between normal, snow/wet, sport and track modes

  • HID headlamps with LED DRL,

  • Multiple airbags (front, curtain and knee),

  • Cross Traffic Alert,

  • 12-speaker audio system complete with 8-inch sub-woofer

  • ABS with EBD, ESP and traction control.

Unveiling the Mustang, the company said it has made many changes to suit Indian regulations, including right-hand drive steering. The sixth-generation Mustang is the first one to be developed as a right-hand drive.

Since the Mustang went on sale in 1964, Ford has sold more than 90 lakh units.


"First time in 50 years we have right handed Mustang. We will launch this iconic model in India in second quarter of 2016," Ford India Managing Director and President Nigel Harris 


The company, however, did not share price details.
