Jawa to re-enter India with 350 OHC and 660 Vintage motorcycles

Jawa seems a step closer to re-entering the motorcycle market in India. Sources* say that Jawa could re-enter India by 2018 with the 350 OHC and 660 Vintage motorcycles.

Jawa was acquired by Mahindra & Mahindra, a major name in the four-wheeler industry last year. Mahindra plans of doing research and development of the Jawa motorcycles in India. The production will take place at Mahindra’s Pithampur plant in Madhya Pradesh and the motorcycles will be exported to other south-eastern nations.

While Jawa has been known for two-stroke engines, the company has launched two motorcycles in Europe with four-stroke units - 350 OHC and 660 Vintage.

The 350 OHC is a brand new model that pays tribute to the 350 Type 634 two-stroke from the 1970s. The 350 OHC is powered by a Euro 4 compliant, 397cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine with a fuel injection system. It produces 27.7 hp at 6500 rpm and 30.6 Nm at 5000 rpm.

The 660 Vintage is not exactly a new motorcycle, but more of a street version of the 660 Sportard introduced in 2011. It was powered by a 660cc parallel twin, four-stroke, liquid-cooled engine. The 660 Vintage too produces the same power figures - 49 hp and 57.5 Nm, but has a more classic styling.

Detailed specifications of the motorcycle are known yet, but it does get ABS for the front disc brake. It is priced at CZK 99,930 or about INR 2.6 lakh. There is no confirmation yet whether or not Mahindra would launch the 350 OHC or the 660 Vintage in India.

If the company's announcement on bringing Jawa to India is accurate, they will be sold through Jawa dealerships across the country by 2018. If the 350 OHC is manufactured in India, it will likely be priced about the same as it is currently in the Czech Republic.
